ThemeOcean is a WordPress portfolio theme for photographers, designers, motion artists and studios. It is built as a native WordPress block theme — no page builder, no jQuery, and not a single request to anybody else’s server.

It also has one unusual property that is worth explaining up front, because people normally mistake it for an oversight.

The demo deliberately contains no great work

Open any portfolio theme on any marketplace. You will see a flawless grid of magazine-cover photography: lit properly, curated, colour-graded. The theme looks stunning.

Then the buyer installs it and uploads their own photos. And it turns out that none of it was holding the page together.

We went the other way. The ThemeOcean demo contains no borrowed masterpieces — only neutral fills. There is nothing to admire, and that is the point: you are judging the grid, the typography, the spacing, the rhythm and the way the blocks behave, not somebody else’s photograph sitting inside them. If you like the theme like this, it can only get better once your own work is in it.

It is an honest trade. We are not selling you someone else’s portfolio and calling it design.

You may remember WordPress differently

If the last time you built a WordPress site you needed a page builder to move a heading — or a developer, or both — that WordPress is gone.

Modern WordPress edits itself. Headers, footers, archives, the 404 page, the front page: you click on a thing and change it. ThemeOcean is built entirely on that, which has consequences you can feel every day:

• Nothing new to learn. Every screen is the standard WordPress editor. No proprietary interface, no video tutorials before your first edit.
• Nothing to renew. No builder licence, no add-on bundle, no monthly fee attached to your own site.
• Nothing to untangle later. Your pages are ordinary WordPress pages. Change theme in three years and your content is still content — not shortcodes from a plugin you no longer own.
• Nothing slowing it down. A page builder ships a framework, its own CSS and usually jQuery before your first paragraph appears. This theme ships none of that.

Live HTML5 banners and prototypes, right on the project page

Most portfolio themes can show a picture of interactive work. ThemeOcean plays the real thing.

Upload a ZIP with an index.html inside and the theme turns it into a player on your project page: a format switcher, replay, a drag handle for responsive pieces, and a proper full-screen view. No YouTube embed, no GIF, no third-party service.

What people put in it:

• HTML5 ad banners — a whole campaign in one block, every format switchable, sizes read from the files automatically;
• prototypes exported from Figma, Framer or Webflow — clickable, right on the page;
• motion and animation — Lottie, CSS, canvas, WebGL, at full quality instead of a compressed video;
• interactive pieces — configurators, infographics, small games, component demos.

Each one runs sandboxed in its own frame, and only the first loads until a visitor asks for the next. Ten formats on a page cost you one running animation, not ten.

Four complete looks, one click apart

Not four colour presets. Four finished designs: Default, Abyss, Editorial and Signal. Each one changes the palette, the type scale, buttons, cards, borders, shadows and corner radii together. And each carries its own dark scheme, so the light/dark switch in your header keeps working whichever you pick.

Picking one is a starting point, not a commitment. Everything in it stays editable under Styles afterwards.

The portfolio lives in a plugin on purpose. Your projects are content, and content should outlive your choice of theme.

Fast because of what is missing

• No jQuery, no framework, no build step, no page builder.
• Zero third-party requests. Not a font, not a script, not an icon. Nothing about your visitors leaves your server — one less GDPR conversation to have.
• Self-hosted variable fonts, subset by language: a Latin page never downloads the Cyrillic files.
• Block CSS loads only where that block is used.
• The motion engine is about 7 KB over the wire, and switches itself off for visitors who prefer less movement.

Set up in an afternoon

After activating, one panel walks you through the whole thing in the right order: add the portfolio section, add the contact form, add the importer, load the demo. Every step is one button, and every step is optional.

The demo brings every page, post and project from the preview, images included — copied from inside the theme, so nothing is fetched from the internet and it works on any domain, even a local one. Your front page, blog page and menu are set for you.

The full manual is built into WordPress itself, under Appearance → ThemeOcean, rendered from the theme’s own files so it can never fall out of step with your version. It is in the download as offline HTML too.
